Green and Red
Nature offers up a bouquet of color.In other news, the State of California is slashing away at its budget in an effort to save some green and get out of the red. This fix is just for the current fiscal year. Expect more cuts to be proposed as part of the next State Budget.
I'm glad the State is taking a long hard look at its spending addiction, but fear that the people are being used as pawns in an effort to sell tax increases to the public. Look at the cuts they are proposing: Education, Health Care, State Park Closures, and putting prisoners back out on the streets.
What are we doing here? Creating a State of Fear? This would play well into fooling people that we can tax ourselves into prosperity, but we can't.
It seems like it would be a good time to overhaul the State's Budget from top to bottom and turn over areas that can be much better run, at lower costs and greater efficiency, to the private sector. Get rid of redundant government departments, and get back into the business of serving the people.
I know a lot of this has been said before, be there was never any follow through. Shell games never cured budget ills, and denial is no way to get over an addiction (spending or otherwise).
And one last thing, the State is issuing more debt to meet short term obligations, you know like using one credit card to pay off another. Now there's a responsible solution.... right?
Make no mistake about it, California is in a world of hurt.

Early Departure
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pool singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone. - Sara Teasdale

The Cove
The California Coast can be breathtaking. The further north the more so, that is if you're looking for Nature sans urban influences.The lack of urban influences if fine with me, but it does make it much more difficult to actually get down to the beach and/or the water's edge.
You need to be aware of the tides and find a way to get down to the water that also will let you get back fairly easily. This is more for safety than anything else.
It is rewarding to be able see this part of the world and easy to get lost enjoying the wonders it offers.
