Something Simple

Some days I just go out with my camera and photograph whatever comes my way, or doesn't for that matter. I'm not after clutter (unless that's the subject), but rather something simple.

Shape

Architecture can be a challenge to photograph. Not in the sense of walking up to it, setting the proper exposure and pushing the shutter. Often, buildings are cluttered by their surroundings, which makes it hard to take them in. If you slow down and look you will see small things, the details that went into the structure. The elements that work together creating the whole. It's then you will find that there is a lot to photograph. Then the challenge becomes capturing the essence of the building and not setting the exposure and pushing the shutter.

Colour

Strong colour can be a photographic subject all by itself. I find it interesting to see what types of reactions I get to photographs, and find that the ones with lots of colour fair well. Good subject matter helps a lot too.

Sailing Off

We all have them, days where nothing, and I mean nothing seems to go right,
and you think "Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship" and get me out of here!

That's what I thought of when I saw this tallship off the California Coast.
And I was having one of those... Until I looked up and say this!

Rainy Days

A rainy day is no excuse not to go out and take photographs. Just keep your camera dry and an eye out for things just asking to have their picture taken.

Design

Old cars are fun to photograph. They pose their own unique challenges with capturing the lighting, shadows and reflections properly. I find that they make great studies in design, as they contain so many graphic elements that the sum of the parts are often greater than the whole.

Incidental Moments

It may not seem like much, but an incidental moment or two helps me collect my thoughts. The beach is a good place for this. I'm not to the only one it seems. This photograph reminds me of those moments.

Flying in the rain

I'd been looking forward to today's car show for a couple of weeks. This was a chance to shoot some vintage automobiles and do something different. Well, it rained... I decided to go anyway. It was a challenge to say the least, mostly trying to keep my camera dry. I'm glad I went as the rain added an element that I feel makes the pictures much more interesting.

Journey

If we knew where life was going to take us, we could change roads, or maybe just take a shortcut and save ourselves some grief.

I prefer to make the most of it and try to enjoy the ride.

Water

I like to incorporate water into the photographs I make whenever I can. They add an extra dimension to the light and add a sense of tranquility.

A dog's life

A sunset for the dogs? I'll take it...

Forgotten

Some things are best forgotten, others photographed and saved.

I often go out with my camera without a plan in mind, and photograph what crosses my path. It's proven to be very rewarding.

In our nature

Is it in our nature, or is there something about having a camera in hand that makes us go to the ends of the earth photographing the beauty of nature?

Determination

I've found that sometimes when I'm out making photographs, one just jumps out with a message all its own. This one happened to say, don't give up. Like the little critter determined to make it up this sand dune.

Puzzled

Sometimes, when all seems to be washed up, something else comes along. Puzzling, yes, but...

Adventure

Few, if any of us, know what lies ahead... The best we can do is try and enjoy the adventure of life, though it can be a wild ride.

Chasing Dreams

Photography and Photoshop have allowed me to bring dreams to fruition in more ways than one. Often the result is a visual freedom, or just the discovery of an idea that was hiding in an image. Something that takes on it's own life...

Transitions

Since light really is the subject, I find that photographs that try to express that hold a lot of interest. Photographing the desert, you'll find a lot of opportunity to capture transitions in light.

Lost in the moment

There are times when the photographer and the subject connect.

That's when magic happens.

Light and Shadow. A photographer's best friend.

Horizon

New things await those who look out over the horizon.

Dawn

I find dawn a great time for photography.

Not a lot of people around, but a stunning sunrise is hard to pass up.

Reflections

I like beach sunset photography. It reflects the soul.

There is an air of romance, peace and solitude that is hard to find any place else.

Youth

Moments like these never change, we just grow older and pass away.

The moments remain an endless Summer.

The coming age

A life reborn from death the world to save,
for love, salvation rises from the grave.

Unholy sinning swine, our world war and rage,
your forgiving light doth shine to lead us to the coming age.

To everything there is a season

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven
In silence comes renewal and hope.

Flooded

Technology is nice, but when the line is crossed and it becomes a consumer of my time rather than a time saver... Well, you get the picture. I don't like the flood of spam I get. Delete!!!

Nostalgia

Sometimes I have the good fortune of being in the right place at the right time. Imagine looking up and seeing this. One shot was all I had time for. It was a little blurry, but a quick adjustment in Photoshop and a couple of applied filters, and.... bam - an image that screams Nostalgia!

Dance

If you know what you love in life, dance till you can't.

There's a name for it

Funny, I'm finding myself at a loss for words when trying to sum up a laundry list of what an image is and/or what it's about. Not helpful when you're trying to sell stock photography. I guess I now have a project for the month (when it comes to keywording): be more loquacious

Daze End

There's nothing like a little time at the end of the day

on the beach with my camera, the waves, and the sunset,

to clear my head.
