Hold Nothing

A river flows on,
never grasping the water,
just feeling its course,
while hands clutch at reflections,
losing all but empty waves.

The breeze does not pause,
nor ask to be remembered.
It dances, then fades—
yet the trees bow in knowing,
swaying only in the now.

A bird’s song is sung,
not kept in ink or iron.
It lifts, then is gone—
but the dawn still listens well,
without need for memory.

Clouds drift without chains,
unconcerned with their own shape.
Eyes may chase their forms,
but only the open mind
feels the sky beyond the veil.

Let the world unfold,
unwritten and unrecorded.
To see is enough.
Hold nothing, and you will find
all things resting in your palms.

Through the Lens of Time

Beneath the sky, where moments gleam,
We frame the world in a silver dream.
A click, a flash, a whispered song,
Capturing now before it’s gone.

The laughter caught, a fleeting glance,
A child at play, a lover’s dance.
Through lenses wide, the story flows,
The beauty in life's ebb and glow.

A photograph, a memory’s thread,
Weaving tales of lives we’ve led.
In sepia tones or colors bright,
The past remains within our sight.

The camera sees what words can't say,
A stolen kiss, the light of day.
Each frozen frame, a time-stamped grace,
A mirror to our fleeting face.

So let us shoot with hearts alight,
To capture stars in the velvet night.
For though time flies and moments fade,
Through every image, life’s replayed.

On the edge of memory

The sky was a pale shade of lavender, the sun hanging low on the horizon as the waves gently lapped against the rocky coast. A salty breeze whispered through the air, carrying with it the quiet hum of the sea. Along the shore, a lone photographer stood still, camera in hand, eyes fixed on the distant line where the ocean met the sky.

Out of the mist, a tall ship appeared, its sails billowing softly in the wind, like a ghost from another time. The ship moved with a grace that seemed impossible in the modern world, its wooden hull slicing through the water without a sound. No engines, no noise—just the rhythmic pulse of nature.

The photographer, entranced by the sight, raised the camera slowly. With a quiet click, the lens captured the fleeting image, a memory pressed into film. But even as the shutter closed, the ship was already fading, swallowed by the mist as if it had never been there at all.

For a few more moments, the photographer stood, lost in the serenity of the scene. The only sound was the wind and the waves, and time seemed to stretch in those quiet breaths. It was a moment of zen, untouched by the chaos of the world, suspended between reality and dream.

Then, as the last glimmer of the ship vanished over the horizon, the spell was broken. The photographer lowered the camera, blinking as if awakening from a trance. The world resumed its rhythm, and the moment passed like a whisper, leaving only the faint scent of salt in the air.

It was as though the ship had never been there—just a fleeting specter on the edge of memory, forever lost in the endless sweep of the sea.

Who we were

We Mourn
captured glimpses of the past
flashing by in fleeting moments
in their wake
we struggle to remember
who we were

Oblivion

Memories captured
still, moments frozen
will pass into oblivion
along with us

Not Observers

We are meant to be part of the world around us,
not just neutral observers,
we must learn to be

We make our memories
snapshots of time
little treasures
that fade
day by day

Captured

The phantoms were out to play
I shot down the reflections today
my camera captures friends along the way

Magic Box

Magic box of light and truth
cast your spell for us again
freeze time for us standing here
in this happy moment of youth
so that it will never end
preserved throughout the years

Little Change

The more things change, yes indeed, the more they stay the same....

Only a trace

Like the wind that leaves behind scattered traces of its passing, we do too

Unclicked

I put my cameras away, at least for now. It's been months since I've pushed a shutter button. My life has changed course and I need to see where that change is taking me.

Old Photos

Old photographs
of times that never were
reminders of the fading past
as we head off to the grave

Simplicity

I started this blog way back when (March 17, 2007) with the goal of focusing on photography and simplicity. It seems that I got off track from the very start. Recent events in both my life, and with changes in social media have brought me full circle, and once again my focus is on simplicity... for everything in life.
