The Manufactured Crisis

It started with fear.

A mysterious illness—its origins unknown—swept through the cities of the Western world. The broadcast networks, already entangled with the ruling party, seized upon the panic. Each headline screamed louder than the last. Charts, death counts, and emergency declarations filled every screen.

But what few realized at first was that the numbers were the tool, not the truth. The crisis became a convenient excuse for control. Curfews, checkpoints, and “temporary restrictions” were enacted in the name of safety. Every broadcast assured the people it was for their own good.

When protests broke out, the coverage turned—the dissenters were branded traitors, deniers, threats to public order. Families divided. Neighborhoods reported on themselves. Trust, once the fabric of the republic, unraveled thread by thread.

Behind the podiums and the slogans, a different conversation unfolded. Politicians whispered to donors, media executives shaped the next narrative, and corporations sold salvation at a price. Each decree meant more control. Each fear campaign brought new obedience.

By the time the sickness faded, something far worse had taken hold: the belief that freedom was dangerous.

Just Lost Souls

The night sky pulsed red and orange, the flames licking at the thick black smoke that billowed upward, blotting out the stars. The air reeked of burning rubber and gasoline, a thick, acrid stench that clung to the skin and stung the eyes. A chorus of shouts and laughter echoed through the abandoned parking lot as figures darted between the rows of flaming cars, their masked faces illuminated by the inferno.

They were young—some barely more than kids—clad in tattered hoodies, ripped jeans, and mismatched boots, their movements erratic, fueled by adrenaline and blind rage. They didn't know why they were here, not really. They just knew they were angry. The screens had told them they should be. The talking heads had given them an enemy, a faceless oppressor, someone to blame for their hollow, meaningless lives. And so, they set the world on fire, if only to feel something.

One boy, his mask pulled low over his face, picked up a shattered brick and hurled it through a windshield, the glass fracturing with a sharp crack. Another kicked over a burning trash can, sending embers skittering across the asphalt. A girl stood on the hood of a smoldering sedan, screaming something incoherent into the night, her voice lost in the chaos.

The heat was unbearable now, waves of it rolling off the wreckage, warping the air. But they didn't stop. Not yet. Not until the fire consumed everything in sight.

They weren’t revolutionaries. They weren’t warriors. They were just lost souls, wound up and set loose, burning down what they didn't understand, destroying a world they had never built.

Simple Masts

Simple Masts by Damian Gadal

There's a simplicity to life that we choose to ignore for sensationalism.  People sitting for hours glued to television news, absorbing hour after hour of tragedy.  Our society a toxic stew that doesn't seek common ground, but draws lines in the sand, ready to do battle with friends and neighbor who don't hold the same point of view.  This is a recipe disaster, all amplified by technology, and there just may be no turning back.

It don't add up

Stories of the recovery were just that... anyway you look at the numbers you find we're still in serious trouble... It wouldn't be the first time, nor the last, that the media and corrupt politicians ignored the truth in order to push personal agendas.

The news telling me nothing
that makes me happy
fouled into depression
this isn't progress,
it's regression...
I'll have to take comics
with my tea...
and start the day
on a different note
remembering Snoopy
when in need of a quote

Headline fight
calling for attention
wrong or right
from arid desert
to arctic zone
war won't leave us alone
sustained on misleading information
forgetting the burnt red
the innocent charred bones
everyone's a Jones
without name or face
until apology letters
reach waiting homes

words can't thank you enough

words can't thank you enough by Damian Gadal
One this day thousands lost their lives at the hands of hatred and evil.

Many took their last breaths so that others wouldn't have to.

Old Media

The era of being spoon fed a bunch of drivel, and biased opinions is over.

Engage your audience or perish.

News

I don't normally watch old media news (CNN, Fox, etc.) but recent events, mainly the Earthquake in Japan, spurred me to do so.

It's stunning how trivial, uninformed, biased, and just plain bad the old media is.

Their tainted and sensationalized reporting is a true disservice to the community. To say they don't serve the pubic well would be an understatement.

Fortunately there are many alternatives now. I'm hopeful that more of the public will seek these alternatives out and leave the old media to continue with its meltdown.

In the pale moonlight

Fooling all the people isn't all that hard when they're fools to begin with.  In an effort to get different results from doing the same thing, the people of California elect Moonbeam Brown as Governor for the third time.

This will probably be the last nail in California's coffin.  I'm sure that State feels it's too big to fail and deserves a bailout.... I don't think that will happen.  Oh well....

After the storm

The voters in California have no sense, and so a has-been becomes governor again. We've only ourselves to blame.

I'm app'd

About a month ago I got an email from Cheryl Crabtree asking about a photo I took during this past Fiesta.  It's the dancer with the red cape that you see in the screen shot above.  She wanted to know if I'd be interested in letting her use it in an app she was working on for the iPhone/iPad.

Was I interested?  You bet!  I'm a big fan of apps and was honored to be asked.

The app is called Santa Barbara Savvy and it launched in the iTunes Store this week.

I'm very happy and excited for Ms. Crabtree.  Way to go!

Erectile Tax?

In another indication of just how dire the financial situation is for the State of California, a proposal is being kicked around Sacramento to raise revenue via electronic license plates that display ads when the car isn't moving.

Given the fact that our freeways are nothing more than parking lots, this would mean the ads would be displayed most of the time. There's no indication that this would be a voluntary program.

I'm sure we can all guess what types of ads we're most likely to see.

This gives a whole new meaning to raising taxes, not to mention brings Californians to new depths of shallowness.

Here's a link to the story

Driven to tears

Those bastards found me.... Took them a few months to do so, but they still managed to find me (even after I moved). I got my official welcome to the AARP thing in the mail. Sheeesh.... everyone is in such a hurry to put me out to pasture...

California Sunset

This is Arroyo Burro Beach, known as Hendry's Beach by the locals.

It's a great location to watch the sunset, walk your dog, or go surfing. I'm often down here taking photos and enjoying the sound of the ocean waves.

There's a little restaurant here too. This is just a nice place to get away from the worries of the world, even if that's just for a short while.

I was shocked to find out this morning that a man was stabbed to death here yesterday afternoon. A horrific scene which transpired in front of a couple hundred people. And the person who committed this heinous crime is still at large.

This is a disturbing trend that needs to stop.

Just like the stabbing/murder that occurred a couple during the Fourth of July fireworks in the midst of a heavy police presence...

This brazen disregard for life is an assault on the whole community.
