By the side of the road
You never know what awaits you around the next bend in the road.... but if it makes you pull over, grab your camera and get out of the car, well I guess you've found something.

Orange Reflections
An orange boat and a little water are a good recipe for a nautical abstract. Throw in some interesting lighting and a little breeze and see what you come up with.

Lost
Like a road map through life. Meandering footprints and trails that lead nowhere.
Sounds like the California legislature when it comes to budgets. Lost and clueless!

Five to none
The California coast has been getting pounded by very large waves for the last day or two. These big waves are expected to continue through today. The best advice would be to keep a safe distance from the shore. Don't underestimate the power of mother nature.

Ain't no sunshine
Looks like it's going to be a wet and rainy weekend. This is probably as close to sunshine I'll see until next week. Not to fret though... I've still got a lot of images to process.

Approaching Storm
An approaching storm brings some drama to the morning sky. When its over some of these little boats could very well be in pieces on the beach, others will be spared and sail another day.

Without a word
Photography boils down to the effective use of light to say something. Figuring out what you're trying to say is another matter.

Strolling Hand in Hand
Strolling hand in hand. Beaches were made for this, the bonus is the golden color of the fog at dusk, adding to the mystery of love.

Green and Red
Nature offers up a bouquet of color.
In other news, the State of California is slashing away at its budget in an effort to save some green and get out of the red. This fix is just for the current fiscal year. Expect more cuts to be proposed as part of the next State Budget.
I'm glad the State is taking a long hard look at its spending addiction, but fear that the people are being used as pawns in an effort to sell tax increases to the public. Look at the cuts they are proposing: Education, Health Care, State Park Closures, and putting prisoners back out on the streets.
What are we doing here? Creating a State of Fear? This would play well into fooling people that we can tax ourselves into prosperity, but we can't.
It seems like it would be a good time to overhaul the State's Budget from top to bottom and turn over areas that can be much better run, at lower costs and greater efficiency, to the private sector. Get rid of redundant government departments, and get back into the business of serving the people.
I know a lot of this has been said before, be there was never any follow through. Shell games never cured budget ills, and denial is no way to get over an addiction (spending or otherwise).
And one last thing, the State is issuing more debt to meet short term obligations, you know like using one credit card to pay off another. Now there's a responsible solution.... right?
Make no mistake about it, California is in a world of hurt.

When you smile for the camera
My first session in a studio with lighting. I wish that I could just say everything worked the first time and that there were no issues. I had a great model who was patient and understanding, so everything else really was just a matter of minor adjustments.
Can't wait to get into the studio again.

A Little Nostalgia
As unique as their owners.... Car shows are a great place to get some shots of transportation abstracts.

Early Departure
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pool singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white;
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself when she woke at dawn
Would scarcely know that we were gone. - Sara Teasdale

Two Green
What is your subject matter? Sometimes it's the color of an object in relationship to the surrounding environment. Great. How do you capture that the best?

Pillars of time and tide
Pillars standing tall, products of Nature's creative hand, bear witness to the effects of time and tide. Reminders that our place in the universe is so very small...

You chase them down
Dreams are waiting, You chase them down,
No time for rest, Decisions are appalling,
Seems the world is weighting you down,
Sublime at best, Visions are calling,
You chase them down...down...down

The Cove
The California Coast can be breathtaking. The further north the more so, that is if you're looking for Nature sans urban influences.
The lack of urban influences if fine with me, but it does make it much more difficult to actually get down to the beach and/or the water's edge.
You need to be aware of the tides and find a way to get down to the water that also will let you get back fairly easily. This is more for safety than anything else.
It is rewarding to be able see this part of the world and easy to get lost enjoying the wonders it offers.

Fender Bender
Chrome on a classic old car really works for me. They're like fun house mirrors filled with an infinite amount of abstracts, creative visions of transportation.
