Behind the blur

Summer is more or less over, which means it's time to start thinking fall and the image opportunities it provides.

Nothing Wrong Today

In moments like these, all our troubles fade away.... if only for a moment.

In the moment

From time to time the world stops moving, and we connect with all that's around us.

Man in Black

Simple, yet iconic! With subject matter like this, let the image speak for itself.

The Valley Down Below

I like the way the trees and fence frame the subject matter of this image.

Moving the other way

Going with the flow isn't always the best course of action.

Where you Belong

The golden light of afternoon is often too hard to resist.

Your sister sees the future

I've still got a long way to go before I finish up going through all the photos I took during Fiesta. Overall the results weren't too bad. I've got a year to think about what I did wrong and right before I can try again.

Pet your friends

Summer is nearly over. I must have blinked, because I seem to have missed it.

These guys are great

Looks like they've almost got the latest fire out!

Staring Down Waves

The nice thing about a backlog of images, is that you've always got something to work on. Lots of little surprises tucked into the past.

Leaving the Scene

Thought I'd work on some more "Summer" images, though these weren't taken in the Summer. The sun has been behind a wall of fog for days.

No Breeze

From time to time we all need a little help to get us on our way.

Sync'd

I've come to really appreciate the art of dance from photographing it so much. Truly a beautiful and almost spiritual thing...

Before the tables turn

or before the other shoe drops.... seriously, I've got so many of these images that thinking of titles for them is more a matter of a line out of whatever song I'm listening to than the image. Sometimes the title works, sometimes.... errr...

Something Stinks

Must be a sign of the times. More and more, I'm finding that no matter the event someone is there protesting something...

In the Middle

Looks like this guy has a good head on his shoulders.

Recess Rally

All I can say is that I've never seen anything like this before. People are angry and speaking up, and the Recess Rally is another outlet for people trying to get their voices heard. We are living in interesting times.

Red August Night

I was going for some color when I could. Something to stand out against the dark of night.

Spin Right Round

I like these night shots because they are challenging to take and so different from anything else that I have the opportunity to photograph.

That Look

I tried to do something a little different and focus a bit more on individual people during a parade under difficult lighting situations. All without flash mind you, which meant concentrating on the available light and the subject. It's a challenge when your subject is moving.

Wild Rider

Sometimes you'll get a chance to capture something a bit different.

Working on a Mystery

Getting a photograph that's a little different is as simple as changing your point of view.

In the red

Things are getting off to a complicated start and it looks like I may not get to photograph Fiesta this year.

Pre-Flight

Because they got such a late start with the balloon glow the sky is a bit darker than I wanted to be, requiring longer exposures and causing a bit more motion blur.

Filling the Balloons

I went to a balloon glow and had a lot of fun trying to photograph it.

Shooting moving objects (in the dark) in manual focus with long exposures keeps you on your toes, not to mention the fact your subject isn't always lit.

I'd say this is a great way to practice and reinforce your skills, learn to better think on your feet, and most importantly have some fun.

Like photographing fireworks, these opportunities don't come around everyday....
