Memory Serves Me

Memory Serves Me by Damian Gadal

Issues of memory will impact us all in one form or another. It's something we can't rely on too much, and truly is just the changing shape of our own personal reality.

With time that reality degrades and becomes a confusing jumble.

Wash away the grit of yesterday,
put behind you roads of tears,
time to forget the twists of destiny,
explore new roads wide and clear

over years and years,
bled dry drip by drip,
all for the forgetting

at best electioneering pipe dreams

Backlog

Given the almost instant digital world we live in there's really no excuse for operating in an analog fashion.  And yet, that's precisely how most government functions, and what little is done by computers is done with forty-plus-year-old legacy systems.

It's time for that to stop.  Government is contributing to our problems, not solving them.  It needs to get out the way and let citizens show them how things get done.

In the midst of the shift,
the ground moved under our feet...
the world no longer looked the same,
and yet we recognized it still...
we made the change from analog,
ideas coalesced, becoming digital

Once a book seller

It's should be obvious by now that ebooks have changed the landscape. I'd add that this change is for the better.

I've been learning how to put together ebooks, and have to say that if you put the time and effort into it, you'll find it gets easier as you go along.

I've been doing this to help a loved one's dream of being published come true.  Something that couldn't be done if you let a small group of publishers hold the keys to the kingdom of dreams.

Amazon deserves a big thanks for taking the lead on making this change happen.  The rest is up to us... those who like to dream and create.

Once upon time

Once upon time by Damian Gadal
Once upon time, a photo by Damian Gadal on Flickr.
Digital publishing is a labor of love,
ninety percent work, ten percent art.

To get things right, you must have patience.

There will be a lot of trial and error to get the coding right.

Sure, it gets easier as you go along, as do all things,
but you really need to block out some time for this.

Be prepared to put a lot of blood, sweet and tears into it.

The reward will make the effort worth it, so hang tough.

I'm sure the process will improve, in the meaning there will be growing pains.
