Sometimes we just drift apart....

no need to mend fences,

It's not the road that leads us to our destination....

Unconcerned

If Iris couldn't leave by sea,

then she'd live by air.

Anything to escape fate.

Guilt or innocence are concerns for others.

Undaunted

Iris knew she had to get out of town,

she didn't want the pesky Lieutenant finding her.

Arranging safe passage for a murder suspect would be difficult.

Undaunted, she schemed.

Compromises

The Lieutenant remembers thinking he could clean up this city.

He still wanted to, but he knew better now.

He wasn't the same idealist that he was in younger days,

making compromises he was ashamed of as he aged.

Though he wasn't corrupt. At least not yet.

Still a dump

Lieutenant Charles drove slowly through town.

It had hardly changed, he thought, it was still the same dump

it had been when he decided to join the force,

the only difference is that it had grown like most dumps.

Fruit

Take delight in simple things,

the true fruit of life

Who would have thought that California

would be a place that people want to flee from?

I guess it's no surprise,

it's been a repressive place for decades....

and getting worse by the day.

The sad thing about all of this

is the fact that there just may be no fixing things.

The State has crossed the Rubicon...

Wearing Masks

Lieutenant Charles drove slowly through the city.

It had hardly changed, he thought.

It was still the same dump it had been when he joined the force.

The main difference is that it was a bigger dump.

He was no longer an idealist out to change the world.

He wore a mask just like the suspects he persued.

Her plan

It wasn't long until Iris found another man....

knocked up again, she began to plot....

a dead husband meant money....

Iris ran off when she was quite young.

Hooking up with and marrying a much older man.

He promised her career, fame, fortune, the usual...

All Iris ended up with was getting knocked up...

The Lieutenant did his research well.

That afternoon he knew a great deal about Iris.

More than he had expected to find out.

Sure, she had many faces...
