Acceptance is something ours alone

not a nod from others to give

We soured when the going got hard

turning on each other

unequipped to deal with challenges

we created for ourselves

We moved forward when we could

mostly during the cover of darkness

fear and hunger our motivation

fighting to stay alive

Phil could hardly remember

times before the 2nd great recession

days of plenty seemed a myth

all had been wiped out by decree

this was the new world order

We exist as programmed,

how we live is something else

An enemy forgiven,

is one less burden

Nature needs no instruction
