Silent as the Moon

Where the forest opened into a quiet clearing, a narrow stream wandered over smooth stones, never asking where it began or where it would end.

Night had settled gently upon the world.

The trees became shadows.

The mountains dissolved into darkness.

Above, the Milky Way stretched from one horizon to the other, a river of ancient light flowing through eternity.

Below, the little stream gathered the heavens into its surface.

Every star found its reflection.

The galaxies drifted upon the water as though the universe itself had come down to rest among the reeds.

Beside the stream sat a young man.

We could not see his face.

Only his silhouette against the shimmering water.

Still as an old pine.

Silent as the moon.

He did not try to count the stars.

He did not wonder how far away they were.

Distance belonged only to thought.

The stream knew no separation between above and below.

The stars touched the water.

The water touched the earth.

The earth held him.

And he breathed with them all.

A single leaf landed upon the stream.

For a moment it carried an entire galaxy upon its fragile surface before drifting quietly downstream.

Neither the leaf nor the stars considered the miracle.

They simply continued.

The young man smiled, though no one was there to see it.

He understood that eternity is not measured in endless years.

It is found in the moment that asks for nothing beyond itself.

The stream flowed without ambition.

The stars burned without pride.

The mountains stood without certainty.

Each fulfilled its nature without ever naming it.

As midnight deepened, the reflection of the Milky Way shimmered with every gentle ripple, reminding him that heaven and earth had never truly been apart.

Only the restless mind had imagined two worlds.

The stream had always known there was only one.

When dawn finally approached, the stars slowly dissolved into the growing light.

The reflection disappeared.

Yet nothing had been lost.

The heavens had not left the water.

They had simply become the day.

The young man rose without a word and continued along the forest path.

Behind him, the stream carried the first light of morning.

Above him, the unseen stars still filled the sky.

And within him remained the quiet certainty that he had never stood outside eternity—

he had only forgotten that he was already part of it.
