Memory Serves Me

Like an empty cup slowly filled by bittersweet experiences, such is the nature of our memories.

Absorbing Work

The talent that the street artists bring to the annual I Maddonari festival always amazes me. From seemingly nowhere a stunning image comes to life.

And for a little while the pavement is graced with vibrant beauty that will quickly vanish, as if it was never there.

On the Phone

An interesting statement about our culture. We seem to talk a lot, but not really say anything.

There's the water again, catching reflections and expanding the canvas of images.

Destitute California

California is revisiting its not too distant history. The future of the State isn't bright and rosy, in fact, it's downright gloomy.

This can't all be blamed on the recent economic downturn. We've been heading in this direction for ages, and the downturn just brought existing problems to the forefront.

Don't expect any of this to resolve itself anytime soon. We don't have the leadership, nor resolve to get ourselves out of this mess.

It will probably take hitting rock bottom before we begin to put aside our selfish and childish ways and do what needs to be done.

All lit up

It's always a bit of a challenge for me to keep things fresh. One way of doing this is by NOT putting my camera away when the sun goes down. Find something interesting and all lit up, and see what you can make of it.

Valley of Shadows

To totally appreciate the beauty of a place we have to lose ourselves to it, and hope to emerge with a better understanding of it.

Before it vanishes

Another aspect of photography is the visual record it creates. The art of captured moments.

Watching Waves

Ocean waves lap against the shore in magic soothing rhythm. Washing away our troubles, if only for a few moments.

Blowing By

Wouldn't it be nice to just throw all our troubles to the wind?

Sinking Fast

For those of us stuck in California, there seems to be no end to the lunacy. It's no secret that the State has budget problems. We've had them for years and years.

We've had decades of the same. An inept government and voters who vote for everything under the sun. There's just NO money to pay for this.

Budget cuts, special elections, tax increases..... and more cuts, and more taxes, and more and more and more.... You get the idea. Nothing seems to work...

Hmmmmm.... Seems to me like California is headed for another first... Bankruptcy (no State's done that yet) - truth be told, we've been bankrupt for years. We just borrow and tax, pretending this is the solution to the mess and the road to prosperity.

Not this time (I hope). Who is the State going to tax? The growing number of unemployed? And borrow more? We've already got the lowest credit rating in the Nation, not to mention that just makes the problem worse.

Bailout? Heaven forbid! Why should the rest of the Nation pay for California's stupidity? They shouldn't!

California - time to take that first step and admit you have a problem and make the tough decisions that need to be made.

You've already thrown away the future for an entire generation, and in my book that's criminal.

Take heed America. Utopia ain't all it's cut out t be!

Salt And Red

When all else fails, we can still capture moments with those little cellphone cameras. Yeah, they don't take the greatest images, but they can still help convey a something that caught our eye, a moment that will never be there again.

And save us a thousand words...

Coastal Moment

Never take for granted the little moments of solitude that Nature affords us.

Fire

Not much more to say than I'm thankful we were able to evacuate. We took our pets and are awaiting news on the status of the fire.

Smoke over the water

I always bring a camera with me. I admit that most of the time it doesn't get used, but on the occasion that it does, I don't have to stand around wishing that I'd brought my camera along.

Ready for Launch

When possible I try to combine a couple of elements in a photograph to tell a bit of a story, and get away from having a static image.

All simply done by changing my point of view to add something to the foreground to contrast with the background.
