Set Free

We prepared our young well
boxed them in cages and walls
told them they could do anything
told them all they had to do was dream
they could make the world something
but first they had to set themselves free

Pipe Dreams

The future looked bright
yet never really materialized
just pipe dreams of youth
a fantasy we chose to buy

Sunday, May 29, 2016

Without Worry

we light up the future
with toys and gadgets
hoping we'll see the stars
making life an easy journey
lived without worry
though our dreams never take us far

Our busy days of nothing
chip away at us
untill we're erased

Fondest Memories

our folly of youth
over time adds up
to our fondest memories

Thursday, May 26, 2016

Moments of youth

Prospects for the future
diminishing with time
until there are no more
and we've forgotten
those moments of youth

Passing into the void

like our brothers who passed before
we come and go leaving scarcely a trace
nothingness numbered by the score
the void our final resting place

A connection

We connected once
in our moment of destiny
locked in an embrace
free and happy
one moment, still, hearts race
the world what we wanted it to be

Words reach out

your words need but find
willing ears and open minds
the difference that's needed
for communication to be completed

Passing Through

We, transients in time
passing through
from here to there
hoping to learn
something along the way

Soothing Melody

Sing my troubles away
ease this tumbling strain
keep my blues at bay
ease my broken hearted pain
all in soothing melody

Friday, May 20, 2016

We're in era of chatter
a lots of noise exchanged
without really saying a thing

Only what we see

Why is anything what it is,
when it could be anything
like you or me
something from nothing
who says
there's only what we see

King of the night

You're king of the nightime world
too weak and frail to concur much
show them what it's like to be alone
cold and lost, with no way out
just a few lights by which to roam
a ghost that can't be touched

No reset

there's no reset on our days
make them good
make them count
or throw them away

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

On our way

Let us be on our way
down the highway to tomorrow
a place called unknown
is wait for us to call it home

Getting Nowhere

Life, a busy frenzy
running about
in no particular direction
in order to get nowhere
when all is said and done

Sunday, May 15, 2016

Seek within

What you seek is within
that salvation of the soul
that you can hear
only in the quietest moments

Saturday, May 14, 2016

Pastures await

Pastures await beyond
other realms
ones of dreams
outside of the illusion of life

Fly Away

Tracks wet and cold
emotion tight
today depression won the fight
let me head west and follow the sun
do you feel the rumble?
do you hear the roar?
the horns scream at me terribly
wheels and screeching metal
the impact brings the pain
skies shine red
below passing faces
of those loved
looks like I'll fly away

Lurking in the shadows

Tomorrow hangs above
an unanswered question
that lurks in the shadows
making life what it is
have a little faith they say
much better than explanations

Never Enough

Comes a time for a decision
thought it might be difficult
and you know I was right
a man is alone in this world
but alone isn't what he wants
so he searches
the only question is for what
sometimes it's for love
sometimes it's for money and success
but exactly what is still a mystery
because whatever he gets
it's never enough

All the rage

Building myths to be looked back upon
a new history for the ages
a future time when we say remember when
let this nostalgia become all the rage

Around the corner

I bought it on film to watch tonight
but there's dust in the corners
I've got to get a new video recorder
and get my T.V. subscriptions up to date
there's cables crawling through the walls
viewing screens in kitchen, bedrooms, halls
game cartridges are ready
audio equipment updated
my life programmed into the home computer
now all I need is someone to share it with
think I'll call "select-o-mate"
ask them whose picking up the mess
of broken toys left behind
of broken lives lived in pantomime
of factory fun
new digits roll across T.V. screens
everyone trying to keep pace
new breakthroughs
life obsolete abounds
balance goes underground
everything is video
pictures old and jumbled
we're all such a small part
of a world we'll miss
still trying to understand all this
volunteering for the clean-up crew
before the layoffs at the puzzle factory

On display

Age is rolling down my face in lines
unaccomplishment cluttering my mind
Hirosima children know of fate
a future without escape
this is the bed we've made
our doom so proudly displayed

Familiar Faces

I could never remember
where familiar faces came from
everything around me turning
like a medieval comedy
yes, yes, everything is changing
but the words stay true
we're rolling into good book tragedy
oh, how I still love you
let's dress in celebration colors
and bounce off the world
cold as moon beams
oh, get out quick
that's fulfillment

Called It Night

The giant easel stood up straight
when I began to paint
the work started early
and continued all day
the canvas leaned back
in its own sultry way
showing off its magic hues
of fiery gold, floating white
and ominous blues
I stood back and looked long
and then frowned
my picture was wrong
so I lifted my palette again
with weary heart
I decided to restart
with a slow deepening of blue
from right to left
over and over
I spread all the colors
across the canvas
until I had a mysterious
somber glow
lastly I added a fury of white
in scattered specks
and when I finished
I called my picture night

A world of distrust

He had a cold black stare that match his eyes
and world of distrust closing in
he couldn't keep it at bay
funny he should die this way
naked, stripped of disguise

Passing Days

I'm going to where a house is going to die
I'm going to watch the spirits inside fly
I'm going to wipe my eyes dry
I'm going to aim my arrows at the sky
I'm going to hold my head high
I'm going to treasure each day passing by

Innocence gives way
slowly, day by day
leaving us to face the world
as a daily battle
dressed in armor
life the transformer

Waiting for delivery

The future took a backseat to dreams
holed up in isolation
waiting to be delivered
freed from our addictions
to technolgy

Sunday, May 1, 2016

It's a national meltdown
no one is going to give an inch
nor throw their guns down
people getting ready for the fight
regards are doormats
regrets are hesitations
unified into central elimination
the media spinning explanations
