Worse for the Wear

My hour is almost come
When I to sulph'rous and tormenting flames
Must render up myself . . .
Doomed for a certain term to walk the night,
And for the day confined to fast in fires,
Till the foul crimes done in my days of nature
Are burnt and purged away.

In the air

The birds came along and gave a little show...

Masts

I've been hoping to get out and do some sunrise shots like this one, but haven't been blessed with anything other than fog in the morning.

I'm overdue in getting some morning shots, and a different perspective on the coast.

Shouldn't be too much longer...

Lost in a golden moment

Getting out and making images is essential to getting better at it. Practice helps in most of life's endeavors.

In a case like this, given the time of year and the weather conditions, you can predict the direction and quality of light.

With enough practice, you should be able to get the results you want through adjusting the shutter speed and aperture.

Find a composition you like, and with the push of a button, you're set.

For the love of money

“For the love of money is the root of all evil.” Timothy, 6:10

I would certainly argue the greed has gotten the world into the mess it's in now. Let's pray the world can get its priorities in order, and get back to focusing on what's important.

Land's End

The breaking waves were perfect at capturing the golden glow of the setting sun.

Lost in the crowd

Fog and Sand

The approaching fog added an atmosphere of urgency. These were the last days of summer and people were trying to make the most of it.

Take to the sky

Sometimes, if you wait for it, Nature will help out and add something to your images.

Time waits for no one

Golden moments pass too quickly to be wasted thinking about them.

After a long day at sea, the fishing boats come in for the night. Tomorrow another working day.

Molly, Fido, and Ted

Making photographs at the beach gives you more control over the light than you might think... It's the foreground that can be the issue.

Reprieve

Reminds me of those words of wisdom from Muddy Waters:

Had money in the bank,

I got busted, people ain't that bad

You can't spend what you ain't got,

you can't lose what you ain't never had

Ain't that the truth!

So, say so...

Working without a flash in situations like this is a challenge, but practice, luck, and a lot of shots will help get you through.

It just struck me

I have a couple of spots that I use as backup when I'm out taking photos and am in a crunch. I almost always come away with something I like, but don't go to these places too often. I like to hold off and see what surprises they hold.

Chained Memories

Somethings we'd like to forget, but it's not in our best interest to do so...

To the thousands who died, whose only crime eight years ago today was showing up to work or going about one's business, yours was not a life wasted nor forgotten.

About the photo above:

Two flatbed trailer trucks carrying wreckage from the September 11, 2001, terror attacks on New York’s World Trade Center traveled through California. One of the stops was in Santa Barbara, California. It was a chilling experience. This is part of the wreckage of the World Trade Center Buildings.

He Posed

Getting a cat to sit still for a photograph is nearly impossible, and yet not only did our cat do this, he let me use off camera flash. A model is born.

From the fields

I almost made it out of the house to do some shooting this weekend. Lucky for me I've got a backlog of things that need processing.

Rural California - Spring

I think I did a little better job with the music than last week. I started out with a bass line that I liked in 5/4 Time in the Key of D @ 95 bpm and tired to keep it simple by adding a bit of piano and some sound effects. I also kept the amount of images to a minimum. My goal was to get this to be around two minutes. There are folks in my Camera Club who believe that 3 seconds is too short of an interval for an image to be displayed, but I tend to disagree. In this day and age people have short attention spans.

I also started with the music first and then added images. I've had this bit of music, well sound really, (as well as several others) going on in my head for a couple of weeks. Normally I start with the images and then try to come up with the music. I did that last week, but was not at all happy with the results.

I've got some more music I'd like to work out for a couple more slide shows, just need to find the time. One day I'll have a liquid cooled computer with a piano type keyboard plugged into it...

As all this rendering makes my computer run hot ...
