Tu te prends pour qui?

Nature can put things in perspective for us very quickly....

All those things that seems so big and overwhelming, are easily dwarfed in majestic moments.... time stands still and we stare off into the distance in awe.

It's for you

Fire in the Sky

So I get to work this morning and find out that someone tried to burn down Stearns Wharf last night. I still don't know all the details, but some person set about ten fires on the wharf. I don't know how much damage was done, but I'll try and get out there and take a look and some photos when I get a chance.

No better place to be

The way the sun lights the sky just before setting brings magic to the air...

Teaching an old dog

October has been a great month for sunset, and I hope November brings more of the same....

I walk the line

Water and silhouettes are just something I love to photograph. Getting both into a shot really works for me....

Old Friends

When the tide is low I'm able to take a long lens with me and see what unfolds before as the sun sets...

Low Frequency

The low tides have given me the opportunity to shoot in locations I can get to very often. I've been trying to make the most of it.

Taken by surprise

There we just a few clouds in the sky, but that's all it took to add some magic to the scene.

Get Ready

I know this shot is a little blurry, but I really like it. It captures the magic essence of light, which is what I'm always after. I was using a new camera trying to put it through its paces, and was shooting hand held.

Would using a tripod have been better? Sure thing! The camera was a tank, and had a heavy long lens on it... very hard to hold still zoomed all the way out.

This scene was a total surprise, and I'm glad I was able to record some bit of the magic of it.

We get glimpses of heaven in instances... I don't think we could handle much more then that.

Talk to me

Circumstance has given me the good fortune to be detoured lately. This has forced me to explore lighting possibilities that I might have missed, so I'm making the most of it.

Before the Revolution

Just off the coast, the little boats made their way towards port before the approaching storm.

Exploring the coast

It only take a little to add some interest to an image. In this case, a father and daughter exploring the tide pools. I don't think the image would hold the same amount of interest without this element.

Any which way

Wet sand is great at reflecting light and enhancing images.

Coming into port

The situation was quickly changing, so though not the best vantage point, I was able to capture the essence and scale of the tall ship coming into the harbor.

Harbor and Seafood Festival

Just thought I'd pass along this event. Anyone in the Santa Barbara area this Saturday, October 10, 2009, should check out the Harbor and Seafood Festival. Should be a lot of fun, with lots of good food too!

Golden Arches

For a long time, I've had the goal of using off camera flash at sunset to make some images. This is my first serious attempt at doing that. I used this stone wall as my model.

Sitting on top of the world

The power's back on and I can get things done! :-)

No power

No power to run the computers, so I guess it's a good time to hang out with the cats. :-)

Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream

I tend to photograph the same spots over and over again. Two reasons, really, one is that I haven't been able to travel in ages, and the second is that the spots that I do photograph are always full of surprises.

Balancing Act

The sun is starting to work in my favor. Great time of year for silhouettes...

All down the line

Water makes for a nice canvas on which to capture abstract visions of the world.

Where there was a castle

The late afternoon light was near perfect, and finding a sand castle eroding on the beach made for a nice foreground. All in all, stopping by the beach was a blessing. A good day to make some images.
