Geocaching

I was surfing some geotagging sites and ran into the geobuddy site. This software sounds interesting, and something I'm going to have to spend a bit more time looking into.

If you have any experience with this software feel free to post a comment here.

Thanks.

GeoBuddy is the geocaching version of the ExpertGPS mapping program, and the big brother of EasyGPS. All three programs feature some sort of geotagging functionality, with GeoBuddy and ExpertGPS having a few more bells and whistles.

Once you've used GeoBuddy to retrieve the tracklog from your Garmin or Magellan GPS, you can just drag photos onto the main program window and they will automatically jump to the correct location on the GeoBuddy map.

As with any geotagging program, it's very important to synchronize your camera's clock to the time shown on your GPS prior to taking photos, although GeoBuddy will let you enter a time offset to correct for any clock differences.

You can select multiple photos in the Photo List in GeoBuddy and enter metadata (location, keywords, and the like) by selecting the appropriate data column and pressing F2. That really speeds up the process of geotagging and entering captions and metadata for your images.

Thank you. Good information to know.

It's the the photo geotagging feature that really interests me.

There are units that will go into the camera's hot shoe and embed the data into a photos Metadata, but these units don't work on all cameras.

I'm sure the day is coming soon when most cameras will have built in GPS, but I'm looking for something simple to use in the meantime.
